All lifeforms--humans in particular are social creature because we could never live all by ourselves given that we need to complement each other's shortcomings.

And everyone just wanted to exist!

And that is why we would search for a group of our own where we could have a sense of belonging that give us the feeling of not being alone. This is all achieved through connecting with others and this connection is formed through our similarities. And that's why, either subconsciously or consciously, we constantly influence each other to change them into our kindred, and in this case, a subtle competition would occur where the most influential and unyielding would prevail.
