Rachel Briggs is a psychologist down on her luck after being sued by a client whose son killed himself. Badly wounded in an accident, circumstances force her to accept the patronage of a wealthy man whose own son has become depressed, reclusive and immersed in a VRMMO.

He is unwilling to exit the game so Rachel goes into the VRMMO in a desperate attempt to find the boy and save him before he follows an all too familiar pattern.
