Synopsis:

In a world where magic is no more than a children's fairytale, one man believes differently. He has searched the world, with the companionship of his faithful servant, Broderick, searching for the source of magic, hoping to once again unleash it into the world.

Unfortunately, what he finds isn't quite what he expected. Though he successfully unleashes magic into the world, something goes wrong. As they say, magic usually comes with a price and he pays the highest price of all: his own mind.

Though, as with Pandora and her box, some hope is also let out into the world. A few children, born around the same time magic is unleashed, are imbued with the magic and able to control it. Among them is Anna.

Anna is an orphan girl, age 12, who considers herself highly unremarkable. Little does she know, she is about to find herself in the middle of an adventure, learning arts long forgotten, and training to be the best sorceress of the modern age. Broderick, now old and withered, has made it his mission to find these children and teach them all that he learned through his master before he disappeared. Unfortunately, not all is as it seems, and not everyone's intentions are clear. In a world where magic is limited and users can actually die from overexertion, Anna will have to learn to control her new powers or risk losing herself forever. And who knows, maybe she'll even have a few laughs and make a few friends along the way. We all love that sappy crap deep down.

So this is the rough draft and I am wanting to see if the beginning catches the reader's attention. I have more for the plot than what is here, this is just what I consider "acceptable for reading" at the moment haha. I'll give you some context for what is going on in the prologue and ch. 1 though. In the prologue you meet Codswallop and his servant/parental figure, Broderick. Codswallop is searching for magic in our world, believing it to exist. In doing so he inadvertently releases an evil entity that possesses him. Then in chapter 1 you meet the main character, Anna, who is in an orphanage. As I said, o have more for the plot and will hopefully have chapter two ready soon. Thanks for any and all feedback :)
