Mastering Magic takes decades of dedication, one must learn to write runic seals and learn the complex language of magic. The body must be trained for years to begin utilizing low level magic and for near a life time to use high level magic. For this reason mages are treated like celebrities and are given much power and position as there are few whose body can develop properly to utilize a mediocre level of magic and even less who can utilize incredible magic.
All of this was true...until Rowan Wydred came alone.
This old master developed a complex artifact that condenses magic into mana stones infused with a spell that consumes the mana when used. Suddenly being a mage was not exclusive to birthright.
Many who felt their position in the world threatened by this old man's invention decided to destroy him and his creation before he could mass produce it and tear away the power the title of mage carries.
They succeeded, but failed to end his legacy.
His power, his knowledge, it was infused into his grandson, the last of the Wydred bloodline. Fate was merciful on the child who was left to it, the child was delivered into the arms of one who would raise him and love him, interestingly enough his new mother was not human.
