Two small town teens must learn to become traveling thieves in a world of mystery and magic—but first they have to survive high school...

Mira and Magic have little to occupy themselves with other than wandering the streets and borders of their small hometown or helping run their respective family businesses. Summer is the only point in the year that enables them to be as free-spirited as possible.

As fall approaches and summer comes to an end, though, so does most of their free time: Mira attends school while Magic is homeschooled, a system made for Magic's benefit for his heightened fears and anxiety. Or, rather, it would be the end of their summer free time, but Mira has an idea. With the help of her friends, she concocts a plan to bring Magic into the school building with her and keep him out of the crosshairs of the school's notorious bullies.

When the plan starts to go awry, Mira must decide what she's willing to do and how far she's willing to go in order to keep her brother safe.
