After a car accident killed his wife and son, Benno found himself inexplicably immortal. Seven years later he is reduced to drinking whiskey and shooting himself in the head. Pointless, but everything is pointless now. At least it's something to do.

Until one night he is kidnapped from his trailer by a motley band of inter-dimensional pirates. Their goal? To find the Gardens, a legendary realm in which any wish will be granted. Any wish at all. Even resurrection. Or death.

Thrust into a phantasmagorical world of murder, monsters and mayhem, Benno finds himself at the center of a battle between ancient kings, deranged demigods, powerful magnates and, most horrifying, the festering grief inside his own mind. And though he asked for none of it, he starts to suspect that somewhere in the tangled insanity of this new violent world is the very thing that he'd lost in the first place: a reason to live.
