The mercenary guild Vane/Gloria's, and the rune mages that find work there, have been guarding the frontier of the Kingdom of Alacandra for sixty-five years. Now, after a civil war nearly as old as the guild itself, it's time for the Kingdom to expand again, to take the Demon Lands, and Vane/Gloria's will head the charge.
Follow Glory, and the mages of her guild, as they weather the stresses of a military expansion, the lives of her community of mercenaries, and everyday life on the frontier.
The vision:
-A long series about a mercenary (adventurer's) guild. I want to explore a web of characters - from their perspective and the perspective of people that send them into interesting situations - and see if they come out alive.
-A magic system based on applying runes (Fire, Healing, Telekinesis, etc) to your body, the effect changing based on location. Not every combo works, some combos result in death upon use, and the application is permanent.
-Really light progression elements. Magical ability grows throughout a mage's life, but the height of power won't be approaching the divine. The core, and other elements of magical biology, can grow and change, but this is less of a hard rank-up, and more like building a muscle, which can atrophy or be damaged.
-A series with the space to be cozy, so that we can explore some slice-of-life themes when times aren't so hectic.
-A chance for me to actually practice doing any of the above. Critics, do your thing!
