The world has been pushed to the brink of destruction, as the monsters claim more and more land, more things become corrupted. The land changes, animals become hostile and morphed, and everything that is understood becomes something much too different to even be called of this world.
The world began to fall almost a millennium ago. Then there was a king who had committed a great sin against the divine. He challenged the gods, and he won. He proved gods could bleed, and gods could die. It was then, that the first dungeon was said to appear, smack dab center of the once great city which now was known to be called the Kingdom of Monsters. From there the world began to be thrown into disarray.
More dungeons began to appear, and more monsters began to fill the wilds. The once luscious forests filled with wondrous creatures were then razed and turned into absolute horrors. Men were consumed or turned into monsters, Cities were turned into giant graveyards that were then turned into new dens for horrors. Nothing in this world was safe, not even the immortal and all-powerful. May it be a demigod or even the mighty dragons, all fell to the horrors that came from the dungeons.
Many attempts have been made to clear the dungeons throughout the ages, yet with every try, countless cities fell and the world was one step closer to doom. Many had believed the gods had abandoned them, yet one day, a cry was answered. Not by an immortal demigod or an omnipotent benevolent deity, it was a single man who was able to turn the tide. Not through his power alone, it was the fact he could not stay dead. No matter how many times he was stabbed, gored, torn apart, or incinerated, he rose again.
Every dawn.
Every day.
It was 800 years ago that the first recorded Dawn Warden was found. It was then believed that the Dawn Warden must have been the answer the gods had given the world against this crisis. A warrior who could fight against the horrors of the dungeon. Those who could gain strength indefinitely, and finally beat back the darkness, to act as an eternal ward against the darkness. Yet as the world fell farther and farther into ruin, more and more people began to awaken to become a Dawn Warden. It was then later found that they were chosen from those who had perished, yet none knew what was the connection on why or when it happened. Yet as they had become more numerous, more and more of them chose to do other things than to uphold what many expected to be their duty to save the world. Now as the world is completely on the brink they go by many names: The Chosen. The Pariah. The Vagabond. The Undead. The Wretched. The Expendable.
The Awoken.
