Roman is magically crude, which means he's not magic, or rather he can't cast spells. All he has going for him is rune making. All his life he's dreamed of becoming a battlemage, but one more geared into fighting monsters and the like. When his academy tries a hero choosing ritual, three heroes were supposed to be chosen, one for each type of mage. But suddenly, out of some sparse chance of the cosmos, he gets chosen along with three others. Everyone thinks the ritual is botched.

With a threat of an ancient enemy looming on the horizon will Roman rise up to the challenge and somehow become the hero he couldn't possibly be?
