A short story from The Caleuche Chronicles, a collection of shorts taking place within the Luke Coles universe, by Josh Walker.

The story introduces The Smith, a character who later takes part in significant events within the universe. It includes an appearance by The Captain, the protagonist of the book.

Port Royal bounces between Port Royal, Jamaica in1657, and Connacht, Ireland, in 1652, and concerns a man whose name is never revealed, but who calls himself The Smith, and who is the latest in a line of vampire hunters.

He's in Port Royal because he's finally tracked down his nemesis, the master vampire who murdered his family in Ireland, and kidnapped his fiancee.

Aided by the mysterious Captain, he ventures into the interior of the island do determine whether he or the vampire will survive.

Told from the point of view of an Irish Catholic rebel.

This is not the same version of the story that appears in the published work. The Caleuche Chronicles is aimed at a younger audience, and features a slightly censored version.
