Madeline is taking a much-deserved break from her unfulfilling but stable job as a waitress. Desiring adventure, she decides to take an adventurous cruise to the harsh, primitive world so newly discovered that it has no true name, just the number it was uncovered in [S-41234 (DW-4)].

As she and the other passengers orbit around the world, they are attacked by pirates and are forced to escape to the world below.

Surviving the landing, Madeline gathers up as many other people as she can and attempts to keep everyone together as they have a month before rescue arrives.

While having little experience in woodcraft, Madeline and the ship's doctor Diduk are able to keep them alive.

Sadly the pirates were also able to land on the world and led by the new captain Yulik. Not wanting the lengthy prison sentence, he rallies the crew and intends to use the surviving cruise ship passengers and crew to ambush the rescue party.

While pirates track them down, Melia rescues several more aliens and leads them through a swamp, avoiding the local wildlife that would love to make a snack of the tender people.

Successfully escaping the predators, they reunited with Diduk and the rest and set up camp near a lake. All seems well until Madeline notices the subtle signs of a natural distaster just waiting to erupt and leads her charges away just in time.

Yulik and the pirates are hot on their trail and come across the aftermath of the disaster, with the bodies of the wildlife that were not so lucky littering the ground.

Despite the devastation, Yulik picks up the trail, and with every minute, they draw closer to Madeline and the rest.

Madeline, being the most physically capable, is pushing herself to the extreme and is slowly cracking under the pressure.

Diduk makes the decision to sedate her so she can get some rest, yet while Madeline sleeps, the pirates arrive and capture the tourists.

Madeline awakes to find herself bound, and while she attempts to free herself, Yulik arrives to gloat, having heard so much about the incredible abilities of the human body and how easily he beat her.

Staying calm, she frees herself and is able to convince a pirate called Surt that fighting the human rescue party will only lead to their deaths. Being a pirate with no true loyalty to Yulik, Surt agrees to go along with Madeline's plan if Madeline guarantees her safety.

Once he realises Madeline has escaped, Yulik is told that if he does not chase her through the forests, she will pick off his crew one by one in the night and that his crew will quickly turn on him because of it.

Yulik realising he gained his position almost entirely on his physical abilities, understands that he must kill Madeline to stop the other pirates turning on him.

Madeline leads him through the wilderness, with Yulik firing at her all the way; she takes some hits, but not enough to stop her soldiering.

Eventually, Madeline reaches her goal, the swamp they were attacked in, and Madeline's plan becomes clear, she cannot beat Yulik in a straight-up fight, so she intends to use the local fauna to do it for her.

Though Madeline is badly hurt, their struggles draw the attention of one of the great beasts that ambushes Yulik and drags him to his death.

Madeline climbs a tree and falls unconscious.

Eventually, she is able to limp back to her group, and the pirates realise that if one unarmed waitress could take down their captain, they have no hope against heavily armed and armoured human soldiers and surrender.

A month later, rescue arrives, and Madeline and the survivors are taken from [S-41234 (DW-4)], and as recognition of her actions, the world is named after Madeline.
