Colonizers destroy cultures. That much is obvious.

But gods feed off of culture. Without a culture, there are no gods.

In the equivalent of pre-Columbus America, the gods look across the ocean and see a people much more powerful than theirs.

Realizing the danger brewing under the surface, the gods look into another world (our world) and pick out someone with potential. Any less, and they can't save themselves. Any more, there will be dire consequences for the gods themselves.

So now they're stuck with this bozo. Hopefully, he can turn this thing around.

(I know the title includes the word "core" and the story includes the Dungeon LitRPG tag but most of the LitRPG are found in the characters and not the Dungeon Core.)
