A Note from William:
This book takes place between the events of the Khasmir Campaign and the Tournament of Kings. It had all been written out ages ago. Unfortunately, I lost the documentation during the tournament and was unable to find it before I left. If Steward Benarus had not been kind enough to send the document after me via Wrynncurth, this book should never have been published.
No doubt Jehair will be happy to get her due credit at last, dubious though it might be.
In fact, with the mess in the Iron Kingdom and the Dream World, very little of what happened was remembered. Helped not in the least because the events were a miserable stalemate. I would also thank Princess Ansara and others for their part in this. A full accounting of these events would have been impossible without their context.
The section dedicated to Ansara was written by her and is comparatively. I have included it at her request since it provides a real insight into the situation.
However, I admit I have an ulterior motive.
Certain rather boring sections of this book detail an overall strategy. One devised by House Gabriel. One which, once enacted, would require years to take full effect. For obvious reasons, I chose to delay the details for as long as possible.
In any case, I am pleased to rectify my former mistake.
In conclusion, no attempt has been made to adapt Lamech's writings of his history. I have read some of them; they are as grim as the worst of my stories. The only difference is that there is no hero in them. Save perhaps Lamech himself in the sense that some of his victims more or less deserved it.
Such a story is not worth writing, and those who are interested in a full-scale adaptation shall not get it from me.
