Synopsis

''A seemingly infinite flat surface that is divided into layers and enveloped by an impassable energy barrier.''

That's how Almafell, the spiritual world, used to be defined.

In the fifth layer of this world, one could find the entrance to a vertical cave whose depth was unknown.

Canonically called the "Abyss of Souls," this cave was known for being divided into zones, for dematerializing (killing) those who stayed inside it for too long and for being one of the most challenging dungeons in the spiritual world.

One day, an Abyss Chaser who had been declared dead by the survivors of the Tragedy of Endloss, the tragic event that almost caused the war horn responsible for announcing the beginning of Ragnarök to be sounded, was seen walking out of that cave.

Confused and alarmed by this inexplicable return — after the fifth day within the Abyss of Souls, the chances of those who explored it to survive were 15%. After the tenth day, these chances were reduced to 0.5%. The ''issue'' is that the return of this Abyss Chaser happened many years after her adventure in that cave began —, the soldiers responsible for guarding the entrance to the Abyss of Souls surrounded this Abyss Chaser and interrogated her.

They discovered three things during this interrogation:

1) That this Abyss Chaser was in possession of the Chrono Trigger, the legendary artifact that had disappeared during Almafell first holy war.

2) That she had found a way not to be affected by the Abyss Influence, the progressive debuff placed on those who entered the Abyss of Souls.

3) That a healthy girl was growing inside her.

This third discovery left them terrified.

Galneryus, one of the instructors responsible for teaching the souls that managed to reach the sanctuary built on the first layer of the spiritual world, used to say: "The light that blinds and burns us is the same light that warms and helps us move forward."

What will the birth of the girl conceived within the Abyss of Souls bring to the inhabitants of the spiritual world? Destruction, hope or... something beyond?
