This is how the world ends, not with a bang, but with a writer.
Frustrated that his life is about to end in relative obscurity, the novelist Yasushi Kazuo, in a desperate attempt to leave his mark on the literary world, commits suicide by blood ritual. The result? His mythical creations of over seventy years pour into reality and declare war on all of humanity. Entire nations crumble overnight against fictional legions that know no hunger or sleep. Born from the ashes, an emergency Japanese government commissions a special task group led by Kazuo's estranged wife, the literary theorist Erica Zen, to research a way resolve the crisis. But interlocutors and memories that haunt Erica's past lie in wait, and Kazuo is not the only author who wants the world to end.
