They used to think of Genevieve Anscombe as an Exegetical prodigy of some sort. She would rather prefer if they started up with that again.

Hyacinth Girl is a somewhat experimental web serial by Malina, in which she attempts, who knows how successfully, to blend the introspection, philosophical depth, and prose styling of certain works of literary fiction she admires very much with the storytelling, landscape-painting, and macrostructures of webfiction she has enjoyed immersing herself in the worlds of. Expect:

- a fresh look at where something like magic could insinuate itself into this world of ours, built almost entirely on literature and philosophy (no prior knowledge necessary, of course)—in other words, a "hard," but not scientistic, chimera of high and low fantasy;

- (small-scale) politics and power-struggles and conquest, both metaphorical and not;

- a not-the-most-functional lesbian relationship;

- an unholy amount of, let's say, emotional distress;

- perhaps-unusual perspectives on mental illness;

- a lack of things actually happening (i.e. extremely slow pacing);

- a Narrator Who Is Smarter Than You (and also me) (hopefully);

- very literary prose, if you enjoy that sort of thing.
