The Secrets of Olthamol: A Dark History follows Ayden Ladders, from Springfield Missouri, who mysteriously exhibits supernatural powers. His best friend is Marwen Kattam, a comic book expert who finds real-life tropes of a superhero saga as their story progresses. Through an unfortunate string of events, Ayden and Marwen find themselves in a mysterious place called Olthamol.

Olthamol is a secret island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that, unlike the rest of the world, possesses a natural resource that provides supernatural uses. The substance, called alquaa, has enabled Olthamol to become a thriving society with its powerful technological advancements, system of government, and culture. Even though it is its own thriving nation, the rest of the world has no idea Olthamol even exists.

Ayden Ladders slowly uncovers the mysteries of his past and how he acquired his superpowers, all originating from Olthamol. He learns that a man named Fletcher Vandershum, the villain of the story, was the reason his parents fled the island over a decade ago. Ayden must team up with his friend Marwen to find Fletcher, and stop the threat Fletcher still poses to the world.
