Maeve Calcroft, an aspiring author, gets the chance of a lifetime to relocate to a distinguished and concealed metropolis to pursue her dreams. However, she discovers the secret the city hides from the outside eye, as individuals with extraordinary abilities—labeled as "Gifts"— roam the streets, and superheroes and supervillains run wild constantly.

Despite this, Maeve takes the advice of a new friend and ventures into Crossing Height's dating pool, and as if luck were in her favor, her first date was perfect! Even with his odd and eccentric personality, she finds it adorable. Maeve thought it couldn't hurt to test the waters with him.

However, Maeve frequently encounters a notorious villain, Yellow Oleander, more than expected. His frequent presence in her daily life is strange, but what is even stranger is Yellow Oleander's affection for Maeve.

As strange as that is, more peculiar events unravel. It's not long before Maeve becomes entangled in them, whether or not it was her choice.
