Ten-year-old Hef witnesses spontaneous human combustion when he sees his grandfather burst into flames right in front of him. No one believes him, except for a beautiful redhead who tells Hef he has inherited great wealth from his late grandfather.

After his father is assassinated, Hef and his mother are forced to go into hiding, where he is given an elite education, including the fighting arts. Amid recurring dreams of fire and the mysterious redhead, Hef learns his fate will take one of two paths: if his heritage is pure, he will have tremendous power and wealth as a Firelord, but if he is of incomplete heritage, he will die in flames.
