Deep is the well of the past, and the roots of the world tree reach just as deep. The future towers above us like mountains, clouds cover the peaks, and caverns lie behind them we will never glimpse. The world tree reaches just as high, its tip is shrouded in mist. Who could gauge the depth of the ocean, who could measure the height of the skies? Only the truly vain think they can uncover the past, or foretell the future. And no man will ever touch the tip of the world tree, nor find an end of its roots.
A folk parable told far and wide in the realms of the world tree.
