In the desolate wasteland of the arctic, where the sun has a halo, and for months it is always day or always night, an expedition has been launched to find a passage over the continent of Kastalel. Not many have returned from such an expedition, and many tribes have come across the cairns of lost explorers. But now, with the iron hulled, steam powered icebreaker Kerru-Bānû, another attempt has been made to find a route through the pack ice.

However, by the northern poles of this world lay invisible cracks only partly sealed, which lead to a world beyond, whose tendrils have leaked in over the millennia into this world. Such supernatural occurrences appear throughout history and in the books of the Church of the Defender, who's God remains dormant after its great struggle that has long past into mythos.

So as the fleet forces it's way through the ice into uncharted seas, no one knows what they will find as they get closer to the unknown cracks….
