Katie Stone, lives with an alcoholic mother in a poverty and crime infested part of the city. She is lost, and feeling trapped, until she happens upon a man digging in a graveyard one night.

Nathan is a witch, chafing under the control of the English Coven that governs the hidden and supernatural world. He sees in Katie a chance to gain an ally, someone outside of the traditional community of witches.
