Mr. Irving and his brutish companion, Toxadrun, who is trapped in a stone vase, are agents of BUDUIEN, the Bureau of Dungeon Inspection and Enhancement. They travel to strange worlds to investigate stagnating dungeons that yield only low dead body counts and offer enhancement possibilities to put such establishments back on track.
