Why does nearly every superpowered individual end up fighting while costumed? Why has technology failed to advance for the last forty years? Why does the entire world seem stuck in a bygone era?

And above all, why does no one seem to notice or care?

Christopher Hailey is an average guy who just wants to be left alone. Unfortunately for him, one afternoon's events and his own actions serve to embroil him in the conflict between superheroes and supervillains. Declining the offer of a presumed madman, Christopher chooses to use his newfound abilities in the employ of the Vanguard, the official Hero organization of the United States. But as time passes, the words of the madman ring louder and louder in his mind, and Christopher begins to wonder.
