This is the story of Garfield, an amoral man embarking on his latest misadventure. Garfield is one monster among many though, so don't doubt he'll have some competition. He'll be given a run for his money by the rest of the cast.

Knowing this in advance isn't strictly necessary to enjoy the story: The setting is a low-magic post-apocalyptic desert dystopia. Most of North America has become one massive desert dotted with a sparse array of fortified arcologies ruled by cruel regimes that function similarly to a cross between a corporation and a mafia famiglia. The wastes are roamed by mysterious super men who claim to derive their power from an ancient martial art that mysteriously seems to have only ever surfaced since the desertification of the lower forty-eight. The city-states suppress the lower class by having a newly emerged group known as the desiccators mummify them, turning them into barely living husks that don't need to drink, eat, or go to the bathroom. The dried-out underclass can be safely paid less than a living wage because without a need for basic human necessities and without fully hydrated physiques suited to launching a proper resistance, no proper protest against inhumane labor conditions can gain the momentum it needs to spark a proper successful revolt.
