Boiled down, it's a supernatural harem. More specifically: a group of young adult, magical, "non-human humanoids" all trying to figure out their lives and work out their platonic and romantic relationships. They all struggle with and/or appreciate their various neurodivergences and the closeness/annoyance of knowing others throughout many lifetimes. Also, none of the characters are straight, few are cis-gender, and there are many polyamorous characters as well. Blame "like attracts like" and all that. Also, polyamory is more common in their culture. They have no idea how to figure it all out, in fact, that's where their similarities with us exist. All of them are drawn together by necessity, genuine enjoyment of each other, being magical opposites/analogues of each other, or a mix of all three of the above depending on who you ask.
