To advance again, Xander must enter the Ember Academy and become one of the Embers, warriors who bind their souls to demons and use the gate to their demon to cultivate flame. Once reborn, Xander has to navigate the hazards of this strange academy, which include essays, murderous undead, tests, rival cultivators that despise the Embers, unreasonable professors, and a demon that now resides in his soul. At least he's not alone anymore.
