A trio of Russian astronauts disengage from the International Space Station. A gasket blows, and one is left to suffocate as the reentry craft begins its descent to Earth. The death of the one astronaut would've been newsworthy enough, had the entire craft not vanished with the other two astronauts.

As the two turn to figure out where their (asphyxiating) crewmate went, they are greeted by the sight of a unknown planet. Thus begins the story.
