Luther never had a good life. But neither did he have a bad life. He just sort of stayed in the middle of things, never really doing anything fun or meaningful with his life.

So when he died by getting hit by a truck that ran a red light he wasn't all that sad or angry, just regretful for his wasted potential and youth.

But he was as surprised as anyone else would be when he woke up as a recently born child version of himself, with everything being the exact same as it once was. Given the chance to do what he didn't in his last life and finall fulfil a plethora of his wishes with the help of a system, Luther was prepared to redo his life in magnificient style.
