I consider myself a professional reader, if not by education and theory, by practice. I've learned to read on my own between four and five. The first book I've read was a novel of several hundred pages by Jules Verne. I was five. Since then, I've read many more books. Until fourteen I was reading two or three books a week. Between fourteen and eighteen I was reading one or two books a day. I hated school, and I preferred just to ignore the homework and read. After, until now, two to three books a week. The first advice I would give to a young aspiring writer: follow your passion. Sometimes, those who want what's best for you just don't see the full picture.
I don't know if I would have become a good writer, I just hope so. I see my limits as an amateur writer who started late, but I know as well that I have a big experience as a reader.
