Thread: Original Publisher/English Publisher & Year Date - for Series Page

Is there a reason why such information wasn't considered as an important information for the series pages? Is this your attempt to avoid any angry publisher from determining which series is on wlnupdates database? Unless, you feel like creating an info category for publishers (just like "Translation Groups") would be a bit redundant?

Also, the "Year" date that the series was first published to the public should also be added. This will be very great to add, when you decide to create a "What's New" Page like MangaUpdates.com's database. Including with the most viewed/highest rated series on the database. (is there a rating system?)

There's absolutely a reason it's not there.

I, uh.... didn't think of it.

Whoops?

I'll look into improvements when I get back from vacation.

A recommendation system, and ratings are something else I want to put together, but I've been distracted by back-end things (and work!).

There's also only about 100 currently signed-up users, so the pool of people to derive ratings from is a bit small at the moment, so there won't be too good a statistical distribution, but that's just true of the whole fan-translation community in general, I think.

Ok, basic publisher and publish-date editable fields are up and active.

I don't have easy access to my import database where I am, so they're entirely empty at the moment, but they're there.

Sidenote: To hell with vacation. I wanna code!

So when you gain access to your import database, the new empty fields will be filled, in due time? Also, I'm guessing the Original English Webnovels won't have their own "Year Date" of when it was first birthed to the Internet?

Anyways, thanks for the update. Will you consider having publishers/authors/artists have wiki-pages dedicated to them?

Basically, I have a database of everything I pulled down from LNDB.info floating around, and I can cross-merge some of the data with some careful finangling and horrible SQL abuse.

I also have a (somewhat more out of date) mirror of most of mangaupdates. However, cross-referencing series can be challenging, particularly when different people have added them to each respective site (that's the genesis of the "alternate name" system).

I can see possibly setting the initial publish date of OEL stuff to the earliest release I have, but only some sites provide publish dates (RoyalRoadL dates each release, as does WattPad. Japtem and Booksie do not).

A wiki is again a good idea I completely didn't think of. Gah.

@Keona - It looks like it's getting pretty well covered by the fact that it's being mirrored on RoyalRoadL, but I added a feed-parser anyways.

Sorry I didn't notice the request for so long. I'm lame.

Ok, I'm lame, but I just added periodic LNDB syncing, so the publisher date and such should get updated as the spider walks LNDB.info.

I just realized I forgot to also scrape publisher names, but that should be pretty straight-forward to add.
There isn't a good way to track which publisher is an imprint of another (the DB structure wasn't designed for that), but anyways.
