Thread: Two Different Stories Are Mashed Together + Multiple Versions

So I have two things to comment on here. First of all, this RR story: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/34471/blighted Is being mashed together with a different story named "Blighted: A Plague Rat's Tale" here: https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/78402/blighted The latter story actually has its own page which seems to be correct: https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/118819/blighted-a-plague-rats-tale So I would remove the "Plague Rat's Tale" chapters, as well as the description (since the current description is the Plague Rat one), all relevant metadata, and the homepage link. It's possible that there's a third story being mashed into this as well because there are three authors listed. Some of the chapters have broken links.

Second, I started poking around this site because I noticed that my own story is on here. I recently started post a semi-rewrite of the story, and on this page: https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/110951/deep-in-the-heart both the old and new version are put together. I also sort of organized it, but it'd be better to take off the old chapters, since they're already still on the site through here: https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/129273/deep-in-the-heart-2019

Arrgh. There was a bug a long time ago that merged series with the same name despite having different authors, and the consequences of it are still lurking about in corners of the site.

Anyways, I flushed the series entirely, it'll be recreated within a day or two when the rewalker iterates over all series again.

Second, I started poking around this site because I noticed that my own story is on here. I recently started post a semi-rewrite of the story, and on this page: https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/110951/deep-in-the-heart both the old and new version are put together.

The system for matching series is intentionally does some fuzzy matching, and is seeing them as the same. Basically:

  • All text in parenthesis/brackets is removed.
  • The title is stripped of all punctuation characters, all numeric digits, and converted to lower-case.
  • Two series are treated as same if the author name is the same, and the title after the above processing matches.

Obviously, this is an imperfect heuristic, but the general case problem is basically unsolveable as far as I can determine, and I don't have the time to do comprehensive moderation. I settled on the current solution as a result of looking at a large number of cross-posts of the same series on multiple hosting sites (people like to post on webnovel, RRL, scribblehub, etc...).

You can fix the releases on https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/129273/deep-in-the-heart-2019, but the next time the feeder system walks the series on RRL, it'll probably wind up making a mess of things again.

I don't currently have facilities for handling feeder system special cases of this nature, so short of renaming one of the series or deleting the releases on the old version, I don't really have a solution, I'm afraid.

Sorry.

Thank you for your prompt response. I totally understand. Would it fix the problem if I removed the parenthesis around the "2019" part on RR?
