Carpe diem. Seize the day.

Will used to hate that phrase. He was only in middle school when he saw the movie that made it popular. Everyone in class loved it. Everyone except him. Life may be short and fleeting, yet he believed that everyone should be able to live it at their own pace. Three years and the death of a parent later, his mindset was the same, perhaps even more so. His father grew distant. His home became nothing more than a place his body occupied. His mind escaped into the marvel that is virtual reality. After all, why go out and meet people when you could do it from the comfort of your room? That being said, even the forefront of the technology could only reproduce the sensations of sight and hearing. Without the other three, Will would rather go to sleep. To wait for something better.

That is, until an obscure company released a groundbreaking video game. It claimed to utilize a system that emulated every human sense in the most realistic way possible. If this was true, then Will’s wait was over.

Or was it?
