<p>This is the story of Noviko Tanaka-LaCroix in the year 2372 CE. She is a new mother. She is also a community shaman of the Ryukyuan rigsteads. She is from a long line of gijutsu-yuta, priestesses of the Soldered Sun, those who exorcise malignant spirits from suffering subsystems.</p> <p>In the broader culture of the Pacific Syndicate, she is called a Psychopunk; a digital mystic drawn to the alien, the complex, and the monstrous.</p> <p>One day, she must conduct a delicate exorcism on a machine spirit from the Old World. This sets into motion a chain of events that draws her into the broader politics of the Pacific Syndicate.</p> <p>She is then asked to act as a liaison between the Syndicate and a new partner in deepwater expansion. This partner would not be human. Its shifting motives might be something even she struggles to comprehend… or survive.</p> <p>What follows is a harrowing journey to the depths of the Aleutian Trench, where she bears witness to Earth's first inter-species, non-mammalian collaboration involving the use of tools and advanced communications. There, she must face the beauty and the horror of the abyss and all who dwell there. If she fails to cultivate understanding between the Syndicate and their non-human partners, it could spark a conflict that would destroy everything she holds dear.</p>
