Reign Tennick keeps finding dead people. As a (totally misunderstood) 13-year-old boy busy feigning indifference to the world, he would much rather not. It makes for a terrible hobby, and isn't the sort of talent that can be put on college applications. And according to his stepbrother Zek (despite his own thoughts on the matter), Reign is going to college.

Despite being stuck in a backwards town full of people who think he's the devil, Reign thinks he's doing alright. Sure, there is an elusive serial killer on the loose, running around leaving bodies laying about like an irresponsible litterbug. ...Fine, there might be something wrong with his stepmother. And yes, he does have a demon that follows him everywhere and has been for years. But it can only be seen in reflections, which is, of course, perfectly safe. Reflections can't hurt people after all, and neither can the friendly smiling demon that lives in them. Besides, Reign has Zek, the person he trusts most in the world. What more could he want?

In short, Reign's doing just fine.

At least, that is, until the killer starts escalating and an inquisitive skill user comes to town, asking too many questions and telling too many truths. When his friendly little demon starts climbing out of reflections and into reality, Reign's blase attitude in the midst of mayhem will be put to the test as he finds himself surrounded by secrets he never thought to ask about. And Zek-

Well. Zek might just have more secrets than anyone.

This story is set in a world with litRPG elements, but for... reasons (it's a prequel everyone), it's touched on very lightly. Like, hardly there at all.

Cover by chris_era.
