Charles A. Rothbard wished they gave him a ceremony before he retired. Just a simple event where they gave him something like an exclusive, decorative belt buckle. Anything that could serve as official proof that represented all of his service. Something that he could look at and feel validated, grounded when he tried to deal with all the memories he made living in the clandestine under world for nearly 20 years.

Without that jewel encrusted belt buckle, it all just feels like a dream. It all feels disconnected. It all makes him wonder sometimes, if he's lost his mind. If he made all those stories up.

It doesn't help that his ex-wife and ex-step son threw away all of his earthly possessions before that marriage deal was officially over.

It doesn't help that some of the same old friends and foes still think he is in the game.

It doesn't help that some of the people he needs now to clear his name, those invaluable connections were built on an identity that is behind a curtain now where he can't use it anymore.

I don't know but I think we should root for him because he is going to get his most important mission pretty soon. He doesn't know it yet but, somehow, he's gonna have to keep his mind together, revive his best trade craft, and stay two steps ahead of the authorities when he finds his true love and needs to save her from her abusive pimp.
