Angels, demons, dragons and all other beings that we commonly refer to as the "supernatural" have existed since the dawn of time. Some of them resides where we can see them, others in their own. Some interfere with human affairs, others have not bothered with humans at all. Yet almost all of them have been recorded down in history, only to be treated as mere myths and legends as technology progressed.

In our current world, aside from religious fanatics, or people with deep faith in the supernatural, most would doubt the content within religious texts and century old myths. People would scoff at the idea of dwarfs that loved ale, or elves that possessed an immense amount of mana. In fact, people ridicule the idea of mana itself. This shows how foolish most humans of our world are. They have forgotten that mana resides in all living things. It is what allow beings to use magic. Not the kind that pulls a rabbit out of a hat, but real magic that can create seemingly create things out of nothingness. Although scientists would retort that it was impossible, due to the laws of physics which we have established throughout history, such as E=mc2. It was not out of these boundaries that we have named as "laws" that magic can exists. We assume that everything is made out of quarks, so as long as we turn can turn mana into quarks, anything was possible to be created. That is the very essence of magic.

If magic was really so convenient, then why did the human society discard magic? If magic could solve any problem, why did man kind instead advanced technology that had nothing to do with magic? It is only a theory, but a self proclaimed magician once said," It was due to the exhaustion of mana within our world. More correctly, it was due to the depletion in the amount of mana within our world that a normal person could perceive. Due to the increase in the population that could not use magic, magic itself eventually faded away into myths and legends, and technology took its place in everyday lives."

Of course, he was regarded as a fraud, and treated as an idiot. No one would believe him. After all, why should they believe an anonymous person that was making such a wild claim? It was as wild as a person on the street declaring the end of the world was the following day. Nobody believed him. That naturally was a mistake. The self-proclaimed magician was spot on, he managed to correctly identify the reason why humans treated the existence of magic as a fantasy. If he had been born several hundred years earlier, he would have been regarded as a sage of the highest existence. It was only because he was born in a world where technology thrives that he was dismissed as a fool.

Considering the fact that the magician was a true magician, it implicated that the affinity towards mana was not equal in all people. In this world that have lost a lot of its mana, only those who have the keenest perception of mana was all to manipulate magic. They are known as magicians.

Although we did go into a lot of detail in regards to magic in the modern society, this is not a story merely about the existence of magic, or even about magicians. This is a story tracing the paths of a young man that found himself.

__________________

Follow me at my blog for earlier releases:

https://selutu.wordpress.com/
