Glim is a macabre wisp of a boy. His mind churns out absurd revenge fantasies against those who make him suffer (aka, do chores.) His kind-but-clueless father teaches him swordcraft. A self-serving mage inflicts lessons on him. The wind talks to Glim alone, but isn't the most reliable sort. When Glim accidentally awakens an ancient power, he and his ragtag band of frenemies will need every shred of their training to set things right.

The Hammer Unfalls: Origins Edition is a fun romp on top of a deeply emotional story. It's not super gory or overtly sexual, but it has mature themes about human darkness, the side effects of lies, and the ramifications of pursuing power at any cost. It focuses heavily on training in the beginning, and learning about the rules of the world. Then it breaks away into a larger story where everything descends into chaos, and experiences shape the characters and hone their powers. One one hand it tells a disturbing story of environmental collapse and mental breakdown. On the other hand, it is stuffed full of absurd--often dark--humor, to lighten the mood. By the time the romance sneaks up on you, you probably won't mind the kissing parts. The end ties all of the mysteries together in a satisfying way and shows a promising path forward. A path towards healing the damage that has been done, if we accept the challenge.

My writing has been described (unprompted, by more than one person) as "Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Terry Pratchett." It won't take you long to decide if that's hyperbole. I love both of those so I consider such comparisons an honor. Pratchett's shoes are tough to fill, and I don't claim to, but this story probably will make you laugh. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko's amazing world is also hard to beat. Yet elemental magic is a rich theme that has entertained humans for thousands of years. Armed with the peaks of humor, the valleys of despair, and the fascinating interactions of elemental magic, I aim to offer you a tale that is as meaningful as it is adventurous.
