What happens when you die?

That's always the question, isn't it? Many believe many different things. Maybe they're right, or maybe not. Maybe we simply cease to exist. Or maybe, just maybe, you could have your consciousness plucked from your body by a god the instant before your death, circumventing all those needless complications.

The Bicentennial SpiritFall is held, as the name suggests, every 200 years. The pantheon's chosen divine host of the next SpiritFall is given the 200 years between to collect exactly one thousand spirits from throughout the universe that fit into a category of their choosing.

Then, they are reincarnated into a world of this pantheon's own design, and left to do as they please. Some die soon after their reincarnation. Some settle down in a small village, have a few kids. Some become powerful rulers, or local heroes. The best become legends.

This is the story of the 712th Bicentennial SpiritFall.

Mark Vanderbilt is a human man, from earth. When he dies in an extraordinary way, something beyond him takes notice.

It also takes his consciousness.

Now he's going on a wild ride.

This is a work of fiction. any similarities to persons living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

For those wondering about content warnings- there will be some violence and some profanity, but not to excess. Any sexual content will be clearly marked with an (18+) in the chapter name and hidden behind a spoiler wall. These chapters will be optional for readers- as in, the story should be comprehensive enough without needing to read those chapters.

I will likely be releasing chapters every three to four days, and I'll try and warn beforehand if there is going to be a longer gap in between chapter releases.

(FYI AS OF NOVEMBER 2023 I am deep in essay/midterm/quiz season. I'm still writing, and thinking about how to expand the story, but releases will be random and not particularly scheduled. Sorry! )

P.S. this isn't a harem. I have nothing against them but you're in the wrong place if you're looking for one.

currently on hiatus
