History becomes legend, legend becomes myth. But never forget, at the heart of every myth lies a grain of truth.

Centuries have passed since the generation of Champions either fell or vanished, leaving behind a world bereft of Exoene.

In the current day and age, the Champions have become nothing but figures of myth. Only ancient, preserved battlefields and closed portals to other planes of existence proving such godlike personages existed at some point in the distant past.

Forces have been conspiring in the shadows, however. Where most of the world believes that the powers wielded by the generation of Champions were exaggerations at best, fanciful tall tales at worst, ancient organisations and the United Government know that their powers were understated, to put it mildly.

Well-known multicontinental Mega Corporations. Reclusive Ancient Family Clans. Shadow organisations thriving in the cracks and crevices of society. And above them all, the United Government, spearheading a worldwide project to regain what Humanity used to grasp in the palm of their hands.

It all begins with the Resurgence of Exoene.

Year 3318 of the Old Earth calendar.Third Day of the Month of Verdant Blades.

Two weeks remain until the launch of the New Age of Champions, and Lucian Noxlear couldn't wait.

Life had been monotonous ever since graduating from university and finding a job. Having always been a bit of a history buff since he was young, it was almost inevitable that he would pursue a degree in aforementioned subject when he grew up.

Unfortunately, while he brimmed with passion, his grades weren't good enough to pursue an actual career in said field post-university.

Without parents to fall back on and the pressing need to provide for himself, Lucian had no choice but to settle for a typical old desk job and live from day to day.

All that changed when the New Age of Champions, a VRMMORPG inexplicably promoted by the United Government, was announced close to a year ago.

«Forge thy Foundation. Blaze thy Trail. Ascend the mountain of Godhood».

Besides those three phrases, all he knew was that:

1. Four hours in the game was equivalent to an hour in reality.

2. Gold farming was a viable—even promoted—career in -game.

3. Unlike games of the past, players were free to customise most everything about their characters.

For the last eleven months, Lucian had been saving up and cutting down on any unnecessary expenses, eagerly waiting for the day the New Age of Champions, or NAoC, would launch.

Like every other interested party worldwide, he only hope the wait would be worth it.

Chapters published every Thursday and Sunday, 9pm (GMT +8) | Crossposted on Scribblehub
