<p>In 2089, Berlin is the seat of economic and technological power in Europe. Countless world-leading corporations, cyberized gangs, freelance hackers, and everything else in between call the city home. Unable to control the tide of progress, the German government has created a new counterterrorism unit to fight the threats of tomorrow. The Special Cyberwarfare Group 9. They offer Sophie Weiss, a hacker at a dead-end, the option of a life behind bars or a life as a police netrunner.</p> <p>This story is heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell, as well as many other cyberpunk and hard sci-fi works I've seen over the years. There is a slightly slow start just to introduce the characters, but it will gradually fall into a rhythm of multiple chapter arcs that explore the world and the technology within it, with a couple of slice-of-life chapters in between to have fun with the characters.</p> <p>This is the first fictional non-short-story that I've sat down and committed to writing. As such, it's certainly not perfect, but I wanted to actually create a story and have some place to practice my writing and get feedback. I plan on continuing it for the foreseeable future, and if I decide to drop it, I will end it on a reasonable note rather than just drop it uncompleted. Any feedback is much appreciated.</p>
