My sense of balance was off as my inner ears deceived me. Seasick nausea, the room was unsteady. I heard the calls of birds outside; cries from breeds that I had never heard before. Water rushed around me. The air was fresh, the sun was hot on my skin. The muscles in my arms ached like they did the summer I played tackle football to try to make friends. Hunger that food would not sate. Fear, dread, excitement. The symphony of my senses told me that I was on the river, paddling, trying to survive in a wild place. My eyes were the sole dissenter. They told me I was in my room with the shades drawn, playing a computer game that did not exist.

Marcus found a copy of the infamous World River Expedition and played it. Now he might never be able to stop. He must explore the game and find ways around its glitches. Taking pictures of the magical creatures along the river might help him advance, but he will soon find out that not all of the monsters in the game were supposed to be there. While he plays, he'll research the cursed game to separate the truth from the legend.

Inspired by Jumanji (1995) and The Neverending Story (1984), World River Expedition is an adventure LitRPG with a unique creature-collector combat system, cursed glitches that the main character will have to outsmart, and an otherworldly mystery to be solved along the way.

Chapters will be between 1,500 and 2,000 words long, published daily.
