There are few things that can keep a practitioner from their destiny; obligation, weakness, and death. Death is an obvious end, though at which point a practitioner meets it lends a sense of tragedy to their demise. Weakness is a different beast, one that could immediately rear its ugly head or lie dormant for decades. Yet obligation is the most insidious end to destiny, and Elach has lived under obligation long enough.

Years of working for his town have brought him nothing. Nobody steps up to fill shoes soaked in blood, a one-time request stretched for years until it snaps. Preparation for harsh words discarded as something rips through the norm and thrusts destiny into callous hands.

Yoked by obligation, by destiny, or by some unseen force, the path of the practitioner is the only way forwards for Elach. And he will walk it until it brings him freedom.

5000 word updates on Wednesdays and Fridays
