<p>When Katja's village is burned by raiders she is taken in by the mage Phoenix. Reluctantly, Phoenix takes Katja on as apprentice. A task made difficult by the cap Katja's grandmother placed over her magic as a last protection against those that wish to use Katja for her mage skills. When Katja trusts Phoenix enough to reveal she comes from a line of strong mages, friendship is formed. Phoenix and Katja work together to solve the question of who murdered her family, rebuild after raiders, and create a strong community. A community that thrives under the watch of the two mages Katja and Phoenix.</p>
