<p>Humanity is on the brink. If not for a handful of hyper-advanced alien orbital platforms, the First Emergence of vicious, self-replicating machines would have doomed the planet. Confined to a handful of bastion megacities on islands and in the mountains around Earth, people cling to a life made better by the same technology that keeps the machines away.</p> <p>Alice, a senior at West End High in the bastion city of Haven, has grown up practically worshiping the heroines of her city, so-called magical girls who use technology gifted by the Advent Orbital Platform Sanctuary to fight against Emergences of machines. Her graduation turns into a battleground between these machines and one of those heroines, and Alice is forced by necessity to don the skirt and blazer of one of Haven's magical girls. Meanwhile, there are those who think that hanging on to Haven isn't enough, and who dream of taking back Vancouver, Seattle, and someday, the world.</p> <p>Halcyon Nightmares is a LitRPG about magitech girls and the end of the world.
