Immortality doesn't make sense.

For Aida, snatched away on her 100th birthday by a formal, bitter stranger and his gang of bone-masked killers, becoming a demigod turned out to be the easy part. In the Book of Verses where she's expected to rule, knowledge is power and yet every answer gleaned spawns three more questions.

What powers came with immortality? What is the Book and how does the Vale of Thorns bind it together? Who rules the Black Court in its realm of permanent night? What is the Aj and why was an entire world set apart as its prison? If the Imminent seers are legit, why so many warnings about their lies? Most importantly, why her out of everyone else on Earth they could have chosen?

If she can figure out the answers to her hundred questions and keep her impulsive recklessness from screwing things up like it did her whole former life, she might become the Savior of Dynasties the Imminent Prophecy proclaims her, but if she fails, the Imminent also hold a darker name for her: Ender of Verses.

Tag note: put all the tags on as story will almost certainly include some swearing, sexual content, and people experiencing trauma but it isn't "about" or focused on any of those things. This story is gritty and "real" fantasy in the footsteps of Game of Thrones. Characters will hunger, lust, love, hate, strive, suffer, and maybe die.

Racist, sexist, classist, speciesist, and otherwise bigoted, unpleasant, ignorant, and misguided characters may appear and hopefully be overcome.

Posting 5 chapters/week until 20 chapters, then 4 from there to 40, then 3 after to hit Writathon goal and see what my sustainable writing rate is.

Enjoy! Comments, critiques, and feedback absolutely welcome!

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
