Book 2's word count just crossed 201,264. It's a lot, I know. There's been a nagging question at the back of my mind: "Is this too much?" But the story I want to tell isn't interested in conforming to word counts. It's going to be as long or as short as it needs to be.</p> <p>So what got done? I've integrated nearly three separate arcs apart from Vina's. They're more condensed than Vina's epic story, but they add layers to the overall narrative. These arcs are not just filler; they offer crucial insights into the world and its inhabitants. Also, they're laced with foreshadowing - so much that I'm borderline concerned about giving too much away.</p> <p>What remains? I just need to finish up that last arc for a specific character. I'm looking at an additional 6,000 to 9,000 words for that. Once that's squared away, the finale comes next which I believe will be another 3 or 4 chapters. Minor details are pending, but the core elements are set. My goal is to get through that over the next 30 days.</p> <p>Looking Ahead: I'm as eager for you to read this book as you are. Trust me, it's reaching a point where I sometimes go looking for a detail and find myself lost in my own narrative. While I wish I could give you a concrete release date, the best I can do is say I'm aiming for between mid-October and November. Real life has thrown a curveball my way—I've recently taken on a new leadership role that's both demanding and unfamiliar. Juggling this with my writing isn't easy. But know this: writing this trilogy is more than just a hobby for me; it's a personal passion project. And I'm committed to getting this story out there, even if it takes a bit longer than expected.</p> <p>Series Update: 7-29-2023: Hi there. I'm bringing you a slightly earlier update since I'll be away for the next two days. At this point, Book 2 is sitting at 176,240 words, officially making it longer than A Light's Hope, which was 165,000 words. This is a substantial leap from just 28 days ago, and you may be wondering why.</p> <p>This surge is largely due to some challenges I faced back in June, both in my writing and personal life. In terms of my writing, I had a clear vision of where I wanted to take this story, but the journey to get there was more difficult than I had anticipated, necessitating several re-writes before I felt content with my work. Once I overcame that hurdle, the writing process flowed more smoothly.</p> <p>Currently, Vina's main arc is complete; she's stationed right at the precipice of the book's climax. I've decided to let her story pause there for now as I have several other narrative threads to tie up before pulling her into the grand finale. After writing the finale, there will be just two chapters left, dedicated to exploring the post-climax consequences and providing what I generally consider 'the hook' for the third book.</p> <p>Thanks again for your continued support! I am really eager to share this with you all, hopefully soon!</p> <p>Series Update 7-1-2023: I've just returned from a week-long family vacation. We had an incredible time bonding over shared experiences at Universal Studios. The creativity I witnessed there was truly inspiring and it spurred a myriad of ideas for this series. In fact, my trip solidified an overarching theme for the third book, to such an extent that I'm now laying the foundation for it in the second book. I'm particularly grateful that the first book already began with this theme, which I can seamlessly carry forward to its completion as its own sub-plot. As for the second book, we're currently just over 143,000 words. While on vacation, I didn't make any additions to the series' main story. However, I brought a notebook with me and ended up penning twelve poems while waiting in lines and a short preface that draws inspiration from the first book. My family read them and were of the opinion that they integrate well into the overall narrative. One comment I received was, "That's world-building. Share it with your readers." With this in mind, I plan to share one of these new pieces every day leading up to the release of the second book. I'm eagerly looking forward to it!</p> <p>Series Update 6-1-2023: Hey there. I've written a few more chapters and book 2 is sitting at 132,000 words now. It looks like I'm averaging about 700 words per day, but in reality it is more. I rewrote a chapter three different times during this last month as it just wasn't landing right for me. I think it is looking better now and the extra time was well worth it.</p> <p>I will be slowing down on writing for the next week and then picking back up again on June 8th. My small family is taking a trip across the country for a rare vacation to a theme park. Our son is just about to start kindergarten, so I'm going to focus my attention on enjoying the last few days we'll have before he starts school.</p>
