This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting teleported to another world where she almost dies from explosive decompression, allergies, microbes, being stabbed, and hypothermia in the first week alone. She considers this an upgrade when compared to life on Earth. Magic is real, and she's determined to learn it. She's got a mysterious benefactor as well as someone clearly evil looking for her but if she gets her way she'll avoid everyone.

This is also a story where the end of the world is coming up, but Callie won't need to worry about that. One of the doomsday devices is already destroyed, and the authorities are dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing, probably.

Updating M/W/F, usually about 2500-3000 words per update. Note that the main character doesn't really decide to seize the title of 'main character' until like chapter 9, so we're starting a little slow.

It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai thing, but unlike some there's a plot-important reason the main character has been yanked from Earth. Callie won't ever be godlike, but may become pretty powerful after a while. Some slight GameLit stuff later, no menus or level-ups although there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching. Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression.

Some realistic consequences, violence, language, etc. Nothing too gritty - the overall tone will be light, moreso as the story goes on and the main character isn't totally out of her league. Trigger Warning: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions).
