The more subjects one can leech the power out of and concentrate in one's family's bloodbound crystal, the more one and their house are powerful. </p> <p> Marcus, formally of house Claudii, born from the union of the late High Lord and High Lady of Claudii, has fallen to the lowest possible point in the system that had previsouly treated him so well. He has been stripped of his rank, rendered a slave, a being whose oaths of servitude given in blood to their masters so far surpasses those, already restrictive, given by commoners to their betters that they may even be an entirely different creature.
