I awoke not knowing who I was, or where I was from. On top of the general discomfort of amnesia I was told in order to continue to exist I would need to defend the Prism I was now bound to from the corruption it generated while rebuilding itself. If I were to fail at defending the Prism, and it were to become corrupted, the Prism would be destroyed, and me along with it. On the plus side I was given a companion to help me with me tasks, on the not so plus side my companion didn't seem to be playing with a full deck. My companion did say that I might be able to get some of my memories back if the Prism were to rebuild itself, though he wasn't altogether sure.

Wanting to know who I was, and not wanting to be destroyed, were two big motivators in defending the Prism.
